As an O2 franchise, we work towards spreading awareness on the O2 and NSPCC campaign, Let's Keep Kids Safe Online, by sending our Gurus out into the community each month to help parents understand the dangers lurking on the internet.
As part of this awareness spreading, Bradford and York Gurus, Tom Sokulski and Liam Whittaker have recently linked up with West Yorkshire Police force and are working closely with the Cyber Officers in delivering workshops and online safety sessions to the local community.
The special team of Cyber Officers are the first policing department of its kind within the UK. They have already visited more than 75 schools in the Bradford region and delivered hundreds of classroom sessions to more than 6,200 children between since October 2015. Alongside the parent classroom sessions, the team also host staff and carer workshops, attend parent teacher evenings and family orientated local events, educating adults on the steps that can be made to ensure everyone remains safe online.
In the workshops, Tom and Liam share their broad knowledge on mobile handsets and tablets and demonstrate how security and privacy settings can be changed on them. They also focus on social media and educate parents on the different platforms available and how they can monitor these as well as providing parents with information on the latest products on the market, positioned at providing a safe and controlled platform for children to access the internet.
We are delighted to be supporting an innovative and inspiring local project and look forward to working with the Cyber Team on a variety of tech sessions throughout 2017.
