It’s been a fantastic week for the Hartlepool staff and our resident north-east Guru, Jack Tait who has successfully delivered the first tech workshop for Project 65. At the start of the year we announced our collaboration with the project, who’s aim was to break social isolation by giving people aged 65+ the chance to loan out a tablet and a mobile hotspot, allowing them to access the online world. As access to the internet was the main barrier both the Project and the service users faced, we donated multiple Wi-Fi hotspots which have now all been loaned out.
With 9 people in attendance, the first workshop has proved to be extremely successful. Jack began the session by explaining what an app was and demonstrated how they can be download on both Android and Apple devices. He then spoke about what communication apps are currently available such as Skype, Whatsapp and Facebook and explained the benefits and how they can be set up.
To date, Project 65 now has 68 referrals and is on track to exceed their target of 100 by October 2017. We are looking forward to the next workshop which will be held in May at the Café One77 in Hartlepool.
