Hartlepool local, Alfie Smith has been the talk of the town for a number of months now and luckily we have had the pleasure of helping him make his dreams a reality. Alfie is 9 years old and has Cerebral Palsy. He has been accepted for an operation that will change his life and allow him the chance to walk unaided and enjoy the smaller things in life other 9 year olds might take for granted.
The operation Alfie costs £50,000 and Alfie’s friends and family have been fundraising none stop to reach the amount. We first heard about Alfie’s story when we were offered the opportunity to sponsor a fundraising event at the Middleton Grange Shopping Centre back in December. Our team, along with other local businesses used pedal power to cycle the distance of Hartlepool to Leeds and back again on static exercise bikes provided by local gym, Xercise4less, this is the distance that Alfie must travel for his life changing treatment. The event was a fantastic success, with lots of donations collected throughout the duration of the day.
With Christmas out the way, we wanted to get our fundraising caps on again and ask the local community to dig deep for Alfie! A children’s fun day was arranged again in the Middleton Grange Shopping Centre with a fun slide, tombola and lots of other activities. Our Hartlepool team spent the day collecting donations for Alfie. For every donation, people were offered a foot from the Help Alfie walk banner and offered an O2 pen to put a personal message on the foot for Alfie.
